After using Canvas 2 for around six months now, I was desperately waiting for something new and good by Micromax. With its steady competition with some of the ace mobile developers like Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony, Karbon, etc. it was assumed that Micromax will definitely come up with something that would compete with the new launches made by others in past few months.

Taking a look at the Micromax Canvas family, each and every model from Canvas series nearly decreased the overall sale of its competitors. Lately, the most anticipated Micromax Canvas 4 was launched in India with some unparalleled specifications.

Design & Body

Micromax has worked on the feature and design to make Canvas 4 a better deal than its predecessor. This shows once you pick up the phone. The shell of Canvas 4 has been made of glossy plastic but the finishing is much better compared to Canvas HD. Micromax have confirmed that Canvas 4 has an aluminum body, which is not completely correct but has an aluminum frame just around the screen. However, this frame add to the sturdiness of the phone as well as gives it better looks compared to most of its components.

No Performance Lag

Though Micromax has used custom icons, under the hood the device runs mostly stock Android user interface. While using the device, I didn’t encounter any lag. I ran Antutu, a popular benchmark, on the device. It scored a respectable 13, 559 points. Devices like Galaxy S4 and HTC One score over 20,000 points in this benchmark. But given its price, Micromax Canvas 4 score looks decent.

Quality of Screen

The quality of screen used on Canvas 4 seems to be slightly better than the one found in Canvas HD. Even if the resolution remains same, the screen on the new Canvas shows slightly better and punchier colors.

Camera

The 13 MP camera looks significantly better than the one in Canvas HD. While we need to spend more time with the device before we can talk about its camera performance in detail, some of the photos that I clicked were simply outstanding. The Canvas 4 camera also comes with a stupendous feature that helps you shoot panorama from bottom to top.

Unique Features

Canvas 4 is slimmer and compact than Canvas HD despite packing in a 5-inch screen. The device is powered by Android 4.2 (Jelly bean) and gives great performance. Further, the device is packed with various exotic software features include:

  • The device can pause the video if you look away from it
  • Blow to Unlock
  • Put your spin on images and make your photos colorful and interesting
  • Pin any video to the screen and multitask seamlessly between applications
  • Preview another video without pausing the video being watched
  • Increase and decrease volume and screen brightness with just a swipe
  • Do two things at once by pinning your browser on half the screen and using the other half for something else
  • Answer the call by simply bringing the Canvas 4 close to your ear
  • Select a contact and bring the Canvas 4 close to your ear to dial
  • Flip Canvas 4 upside down to put your calls on silent

All in all Micromax Canvas 4 is one of the best smartphones in this range and would definitely make the other mobile companies to think on something new.
